7 months pregnant on the beach of Ko Yao Noi
I often get the question where to shop boho dresses in Thailand. A trip to this country’s many beaches is a must on every traveler’s itinerary, and even after coming home, a bohemian dress is a great way to keep that tropical vibe going on a rainy day (match it with a pair of boots and a brimmed hat and you’re good to go)!
One of my favorite places to shop is Bangkok’s Chatuchak market, but it’s not always possible to make it there (it’s open on weekends only, and it can be quite a trip depending on where you live/stay). Especially during my pregnancy, I started exploring Thai brands that sell online. One happy morning I stumbled on the Etsy shop of Nuichan, a Thai woman making the most beautiful boho dresses and kaftans! Read my interview with her and check out some of her designs below!
1. Why did you become a designer?
I don’t dare to say that I’m a designer. I just love fashion and shopping, which one day led to starting my own brand!
From a young age on I wanted to wear clothes that are unique, and asked my older sisters – who are tailors – to make them for me. I guess the root of my own fashion business lied there!
What do you like about being a designer? And what inspires you?
It’s fun! You get to be active and creative the whole time. I don’t blindly follow fashion trends, but they can inspire me for some of my designs. Other collections come from my own mind, my experiences or interests. For example, I traveled to Japan to learn about Shibori Tie Dye which I love. For my latest project, I’m using original hill tribe textiles – some well over 20 years old – together with locally new woven fabrics, combining the best of both worlds!
Flash forward to 10 years from now. What would you like to have reached by then?
I don’t plan, that’s too serious for me! 😉 As Buddha says: “The past is already gone, the future is not yet here. There’s only one moment for you to live, and that is in the present moment.” That’s my mindset!
How do you want people to feel when wearing your clothes? What message would you like to convey?
Be yourself, feel beautiful, have fun mixing and matching and create your own style. And feel free to come back and shop with us 😉
How did you come up with the name for your brand, what does it mean?
Nuichan is my surname, which means “little moon”. I think it suits me and my brand, as we bring a touch of shine to the world!
